Lungo la Piave Vecchia [5]
La Piave Vecchia era un tempo parte terminale del fiume Piave. Durante il dominio della Repubblica di Venezia, nel 1642, per risolvere gli annosi problemi di interramento e salubrità ambientale, furono compiute alcune opere idrauliche sul basso corso del fiume Piave in modo da allontanarne le acque dalla Laguna Veneta. L’alveo originale (Piave Vecchia) venne utilizzato per accogliere le acque del Sile attraverso il cosiddetto Taglio del Sile, mentre il Piave fu fatto sfociare in un’area paludosa a sud-est di Grisolera (l’attuale Eraclea) detta Lago del Piave. Una piena eccezionale (Rotta della Landrona), portò il Piave a sfociare poco più a est di Cortellazzo e nel 1935 una nuova piena avrebbe portato il fiume nell’attuale foce. La Piave Vecchia, corso d’acqua di collegamento tra gli splendidi e delicati ecosistemi del Sile e del Piave, è stata un’area di fondamentale importanza per l’economia locale, basata soprattutto su pesca e coltivazioni e oggi importante risorsa turistica; un tempo fronte delle battaglie della Prima Guerra Mondiale, oggi luogo in cui ritrovare la pace e la serenità attraverso passeggiate ed escursioni.

Questa cache è stata nascosta nel punto in cui la pista ciclabile si dirama in due direzioni: da una parte prosegue verso Santa Maria di Piave, per poi arrivare a Jesolo e/o Cavallino, seguendo il corso del Sile, con una vista panoramica sulle valli della laguna nord di Venezia; dall’altra parte invece prosegue per Portegrandi, l’oasi naturalistica di Trepalade e Quarto d’Altino.

Piave Vecchia was the terminal part of the river Piave. During the rule of the Venetian Republic in 1642 some water projects were made on the lower reaches of the river Piave to resolve long-standing problems of landfill and environmental health. So the Venetian Republic tried to ward off the waters of river Piave from the Venetian Lagoon. The original river bed (The Piave Vecchia) was used to accomodate the Sile’s waters through the so-called Taglio del Sile and the river Piave was made flow in a marshy area to the south-east of Grisolera (now Eraclea) called Lake of the Piave. An exceptional overflow (Rotta della Landrona) brought the Piave to flow just east of Cortellazzo. In 1935 a new overflow brought the river to the present mouth.
The Piave Vecchia connects the beautiful and delicate ecosystems of the Sile and the Piave river. It was an important area for the local economy, mainly based on fishing and farming. Today the Piave Vecchia is an important tourist resource. Once it was front of the battles of First World War, today it is a place of calmness and serenity through walks and excursions.

This cache was hidden at the point where the cycle path branches off in two directions: on the one hand continues towards Santa Maria di Piave, then get to Jesolo and / or Cavallino, following the course of Sile, with a panoramic view of the valleys of the northern lagoon of Venice; on the other side it continues to Portegrandi, the natural oasis of Trepalade and Quarto d'Altino.
