Geocache Description:

The Manitoba Geocaching Association winter cache hiding contest objective is to get cachers out during our long winter months. The rules for the caches are simple: cache must be winter friendly as indicated by the winter friendly attribute; the cache name must contain the word “SNOW” and, the caches must be published between January 1 and March 31, 2017. This cache was put out with these guidelines in mind.

Bring your own writing stick and note paper!

This is a THREE STAGE MULTI based on the criteria for winter storm categorizing used by the National Weather Service. Posted co-ordinates are Stage 1, it will give you the co-ordinates for the location of Stage 2, Stage 2 will give you the co-ordinates for the final cache and the log (on private property with permission). Be ever alert for "mugglers".

SNOW STORM STAGE 1: WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY This advisory replaces the old stages of a Snow Advisory, Blowing Snow Advisory and Travelers Advisory. It is issued for a combination of two or more of the following events; snow, freezing rain/drizzle, sleet and blowing snow. It means hazardous winter weather conditions are occurring, imminent, or likely. Conditions will cause a significant inconvenience with potential threat to life and/or property.

SNOW STORM STAGE 2: THE WINTER STORM The Winter Storm stages represent the revision of Heavy Snow Warning and Sleet Warnings. A Winter Storm definition is used for a combination of two or more of; heavy snow, freezing rain, sleet and strong winds. This stage is broken down into a Watch and a Warning. A Watch represents a possibility within 48 hours; a Warning has hazardous weather conditions that pose a threat to life and/or property occurring, imminent or highly likely.

SNOW STORM STAGE 3: THE WINTER BLIZZARD A Blizzard has sustained winds or gusts of 35 miles per hour (56 km/h) or higher, considerably falling and/or blowing snow reducing visibility to ¼ mile (0.4 km) or less for a period of 3 hours or more. There is no temperature criteria listed but freezing temperatures with strong winds will create severe wind chills. As with the Winter Storm, the Winter Blizzard has two degrees of warning, a Watch representing a possibility of happening within 48 hours and a Warning where things are occurring, imminent or highly likely.

Consider these criteria and winter cache safely.
