There used to be a musty antique shop at the published coordinates. It's closed down now, but before it shut it's doors I took a look through the shop to see if I could find anything that might be useful as a novelty cache container.
Whilst I didn’t find anything useful, I did come across an old wooden box.
Cachers' instinct kicked in and I opened the box and was surprised to find a collection of envelopes; some old, some new.
There was nothing of value in the envelopes, but they seemed intriguing all the same. So I offered the shop assistant a token amount, which they accepted, and I took the collection home.
Later that evening I spread them out on the kitchen table, certain that they must have something in common.
True, they all seemed like they were posted in New Zealand to addresses in New Zealand, but there did not seem to be any real link there. Neither did there seem to be any obvious link between the recipients.
Were they ever posted? Were they ever delivered? Perhaps there was some historic NZ Post issue?
You'd probably have to go wayback to find the answer now.
To date, I'm still none the wiser, so I thought I'd throw the mystery open to the geocaching community as they certainly like a good puzzle.
Who knows, maybe someone can bring some sort of order to the mystery?
I also scribbled some of my notes down, but as I was starting to lose heart at this point, there might be some repetition.
Anyway, here's what I have. Take a look. You might get somewhere with it.
