The Museum was opened in 1988 to commemorate the men who built the Great Northern Railway, the original main line between Sydney and Brisbane (with a change of guage at Wallangarra). Admission to the Railway Museum is free, donations welcome. Opening hours are between 11.00 - 11.30 Monday to Friday.
Armidale Railway Museum
Armidale Railway Station is the last stop on the Main North Line where the train stays overnight. The Railway Station was built by Edmond Lonsdale in 1882 and welcomed its first train on lst February 1883. The decorative cast iron work was produced at the New England Foundry (now Phoenix Foundry) at Urallla.
