History:
The original church here was opened in 1958 and is situated within the parish of Staveley & Barrow Hill, on the corner of Inkersall Green Road and Middlecroft Road. The current building was then finished around 1982 and has an unusual design feature as it has a structure which looks like a pyramid at first glance. The main church building also doubles up as a community hall and is used for various events such as slimming clubs, karate, bingo, parties and more. There was at one point the St. Columba Church Hall right across the road from it, although this is now called The Den, and is used as a scout hut and playgroup, just across Middlecroft Road.
The Puzzle:
N 53° 15.ABC W 1° 22.DEF
To solve this multi cache you will need to observe the building from around the posted coordinates, plus a few road signs within 20 metres of here along the pavement. These answers will help you work out the numbers for A, B, C, D, E, F. The answers may be found on various sides of the building (but could be zero) and some answers may require looking for more than one number and adding them together or subtracting, so read the questions carefully. The church is next to a fairly busy road and mini roundabout so take care where you are walking around, especially if young children are with you. There is no need to cross a road other than to find the final cache, at which point look for the safest point to cross as there are no crossings which stop traffic. It could be fairly busy around here at peak times such as rush hour and school runs too, but finding the answers should take less than 5 minutes. (hint: to save time there then why not familiarise yourself with the puzzle below beforehand so you know what you are looking for. It may help to see on the map which road is which and to get a compass bearing too.)
The final cache location will be notably quieter but as always with caches people can suddenly appear from any direction or may be looking on from nearby windows.
The Clues:
A = [number of rectangular windows in the middle of the roof on the Inkersall Green Road side] subtract [number of round windows on the Inkersall Green Road side wall]
B = [number of bright red fire extinguishers (if any) on the wall of the Inkersall Green Road side of the building]
C = [number of rectangular windows in the middle of the roof on the Middlecroft Road side of the building] add [number of sides of the building]
D = [number of round windows on the Inkersall Green Road side of the building]
E = [number of wall brackets holding up the handrail on the ramp on the Inkersall Green Road side] add [number of doors on the Inkersall Green Road side of the building
F Looking on the blue church sign (by the mini roundabout) there are 2 phone numbers. What is the only digit, except for number 8, that appears only once?
Once you have obtained the answers above and solved the puzzle for the coordinates then the cache should only be a few minutes away. The cache is a micro container with only enough space for a log sheet so please bring your own pen. It is easier found in the day but may be illuminated at night too. The puzzle area and GZ should be accessible with wheelchairs or pushchairs, although help may be required reaching the final cache as it is not at ground level (unless it's fallen!) After signing, please ensure it is replaced in the same place as it will only stick to the post. Well done to cats-eyes on a FTF for this one.
