Die Burg Taufers geht in ihren ältesten Teilen, dem Palas und Bergfried, auf das 13. Jh. zurück. Ab 1225 herrschten hier die Edlen von Taufers, eines der bedeutendsten Adelsgeschlechter Tirols, die um 1340 ausstarben. Nach mehreren Besitzerwechseln begann die Burg ab 1600 baulich zu zerfallen. Um 1900 wandte der k. u. k. Rittmeister Ludwig Lobmayr erhebliche Mittel für die Wiederherstellung auf. 1953 gelangte die Burg in den treuhänderischen Besitz des Vizekanzlers der Diözese Brixen, Msgr. Josef Prader. Hinter ihm stand Abt Hieronymus Gassner (1901 – 1976), der die finanziellen Mittel aufbrachte, um die Burg zu restaurieren. Seit 1977 ist sie im Besitz des Südtiroler Burgeninstitutes.

Gli edifici più antichi del castello di Tures (palazzo e mastio) risalgono agli inizi del XIII secolo. Al partire dal 1225 in questo castello regnarano i signori di Tures, una delle casate più importanti del Tirolo, che si estinse definitivamente nel 1340. In seguito a diversi cambi di proprietà il castello iniziò a cadere in rovina a partire da 1600. Intorno all´anno 1900, Ludwig Lobmayr, maestro cavaliere della monarchia asburgica, destinò notevoli somme di denaro alla ricostruzione della struttura. Nel 1953 la struttura andò in amministrazione fiduciaria all´allora vice-cancelliere della diocesi di Bressanone, reverendo Josef Prader, che allora svolgeva il compito di prestanome dell´abate Dr. Hieronymus Gassner (1901 – 197), il quale riuscì nel difficile compito di trovare i mezzi finanziari neccessari per salvare il castello dallo sfacelo. Dal 1977 il castello è di proprietà del Südtiroler Burgeninstitut.

The oldest parts of the Castle of Taufers, the hall and the donjon, go back to the 13th century. From the year 1225 on, the Nobles of Taufers ruled here in this castle, one of the most distinguished nobility in Tyrol, which became extincted around 1340. After several changes of possessors the construction began to rack and ruin. Around 1900 the cavalry captain Ludwig Lobmayr began to recondition the castle with a lot of money.
In 1953 the castle first came in the possession of the vice-chancellor of the diocese of Brixen, Master Josef Prader and then to the possession of abbot Hieronymus Gassner (1901-1976), who managed to raise a lot of money to restore the castle. Since 1977 the Castle of Taufers is in possession of the Castle Department of South Tyrol.
