Piazza Fontana - La strage
La strage di piazza Fontana fu conseguenza di un grave attentato terroristico compiuto il 12 dicembre 1969 nel centro di Milano.
Da molti è stata considerata «la madre di tutte le stragi» e ritenuta da alcuni l'inizio del periodo passato alla storia in Italia come anni di piombo.
Per tanti aspetti si può parlare d'un prima di piazza Fontana e d'un dopo piazza Fontana.
La strage della Banca dell'Agricoltura non fu la più atroce tra quelle che hanno insanguinato l'Italia ma fu una sorta di freccia avvelenata che colpì la società italiana, perché diede avvio al periodo stragista con simili gesti di cieca ferocia.
Le indagini si susseguiranno nel corso degli anni, con imputazioni a carico di vari esponenti anarchici e neofascisti; tuttavia alla fine tutti gli accusati sono stati sempre assolti in sede giudiziaria (peraltro alcuni sono stati condannati per altre stragi, e altri usufruiranno della prescrizione, evitando la pena).
In contemporanea in Italia scoppiarono altre bombe, provocando 16 feriti, a Roma: una alla Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in via San Basilio, due all'Altare della Patria.
Perchè il nome "Piazza Fontana?"
Nella piazza è presente la famosa "Fontana di Piermarini"
E’ stata la prima fontana pubblica di Milano. Realizzata verso la fine del '700 da Giuseppe Piermarini nominato nel 1770 "imperial regio architetto". Nella realizzazione del progetto egli venne affiancato da un altro artista dell'Accademia di Brera, lo scultore Giuseppe Franchi, autore delle due statue in marmo di Carrara che ornano la fontana e che rappresentano due belle sirene accovacciate su delfini. La fontana in stile neoclassico, è composta da tre vasche sovrapposte, in granito rosa di Baveno.
Le sirene della fontana sono amichevolmente chiamate dai milanesi “Le Teodolinde”.

Fontana Square - The attack
The Piazza Fontana bombing was a result of a serious terrorist attack December 12, 1969 in the center of Milan.

Why the name "Piazza Fontana?"
In the square there is the famous "Fountain of Piermarini"
It was the first public fountain in Milan. Realized towards the end of the 18th century by Giuseppe Piermarini appointed in 1770 as a "Royal Architectural Imperial". In the project he was joined by another artist of the Accademia di Brera, the sculptor Giuseppe Franchi, author of the two Carrara marble statues that adorn the fountain and representing two beautiful sirens crouched on dolphins. The neoclassical fountain is composed of three overlapping basins, pink granite of Baveno.
The fountain sirens are amicably called by the Milanese "Le Teodolinde".
