Altra cache che racconta un po della storia di Cecina. Oggi parliamo del Castello dei Medici ormai scomparso. La leggenda narra di una delle figlie del Granduca Cosimo I, Isabella, innamorata di un giovane del popolo.
I due si incontravano di nascosto fra le vie di Firenze, confortati dalla sorveglianza della dama di compagnia che parteggiava per loro.
Ma i servi fedeli del Granduca, che spiavano qualsiasi movimento nella città, per timore di trame contro il governo dei Medici, lo avvisarono prontamente.
Nonostante il bene voluto alla figlia, Cosimo, non poteva certo benedire la relazione fra i due, soprattutto per la condizione sociale del ragazzo.
Decise, allora, di allontanare per un breve periodo la figlia da Firenze, convinto che la lontananza facesse diminuire l’interesse.
Come si dice “Lontano dagli occhi lontano dal cuore”!
Ma non fu così!!!! Quando Isabella tornò in città gli incontri continuarono e Cosimo fu subito avvertito .
Questa volta stabilì una punizione molto severa, tanto che la duchessina fu mandata, naturalmente con servitù al seguito, al Castello del Fitto, in mezzo alla Maremma più desolata, deserta e per di più malarica fino a che non avesse cambiato idea.
Ma l’amore vero non ha ostacoli, …. Antonio, la raggiunse anche là.
La gioia di essere di nuovo insieme durò poco, perché la notizia galoppò veloce e giunse a Palazzo a Firenze
Il Granduca questa volta prese una decisione durissima. Quando
il plico ceralaccato fu consegnato al Fitto, Isabella apprese con disperazione del suo matrimonio con un Signore di pari rango e che a breve si sarebbero celebrate le nozze.
Fuori di se dalla rabbia e sconvolta per non vedere alcuna via d'uscita, anche la ragazza prese una decisione drastica.
La stessa notte, fra tuoni e fulmini, Isabella si gettò dalla torre del Castello e sparì nel fiume in piena. Nonostante tutte le ricerche effettuate dalla servitù e da Antonio distrutti dal dolore, la duchessina non fu più trovata.
L’articolo raccontava che ancora in quegli anni, nelle notti di tempesta, appariva una figurina esile e diafana fra le mura sbrecciate del castello a ricordare quell'amore contrastato.
La cache è nascosta nel luogo dove, fino agli anni '60, sorgevano i resti del Castello dei Medici, fatto edificare dal Granduca Ferdinando I dei Medici intorno al 1590.
Fu definitivamente abbattutto dopo che durante la seconda Guerra Mondiale fu pesantemente bombardato.
Ad oggi rimangono solo alcune pietre che sono state riutilizzate per realizzare un camminamento nel parco pubblico adesso esistente al posto del Palazzo.
