On Aug. 30th 1804, the Corps Of Discovery met with the Yankton Lakota (Sioux) on Calumet Bluff where the Gavins Point Visitor Center now stands! ( a great place to visit) Legend has it thatat the time of the meetingin 1804 on Calumet Bluff, a Yankton Lakota baby was born. Supposedly ,Meriwether Lewis took the baby in his arms and wrapped him in an American flag! The boy grew up to be called "Struck By The Ree", a respected Yankton Lakota chief who was commonly known as "Old Strike"!
