In 1960, a novelty song written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss became a Billboard # 1 hit recording.

The story of the song was about a shy girl wearing a bikini while at the beach.

The song was performed by Brian Hyland and the female phrases were recited by Trudy Packer.

At the time this song was popular, society generally considered bikini bathing suits to be inappropriate, but the song prompted a sudden rise in bikini sales and it has been given credit as being one of the earliest contributors to the acceptance of the bikini into modern society.
