For many years railway service, both freight and passenger, was the way people traveled and goods were shipped. The railways opened up the country and were used to move passengers and freight, long before trucks and buses and paved highways existed.
Please note the geocache is well away from the tracks and there is no need to search near the rail tracks.
This station is in active service but it is not manned. It is active as a Via rail stop and is considered as more of a passenger shelter at present although much of the station is essentially unchanged since its initial construction. Please take the time to observe the architecture of the station. The station is designated under the 'Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act' which was enacted in 1988. Railway traffic had dropped from a peak of 60 million passengers during World War 2 to less than 5 million in 1977. With advancement in automobiles and highway improvements destinations were now closer and people could travel at their own leisure.
