This cache replaces a previous cache placed here in 2010 to commemorate Coach Jeremy Williams, when a baseball tournament was held here as a fundraiser by his family.
Jeremy, now retired from coaching, grew up in Columbus, GA, played college football at the University of Memphis where he was team captain and won many honors, and coached at three high schools in the heart of Georgia, including nine years as head coach at Greenville High School in Meriwether County, where he was named National High School Coach of the Year in 2010.
Coach Williams was diagnosed with ALS (more commonly known as Lou Gehrigs' disease) soon after high school
Back in 2009, coach Williams became an inspirational beacon to a team and a community. It wasn’t just that Williams was leading a team that went undefeated in the regular season despite the growing physical obstacles of his disease.
By 2010, a documentary was being made in what would be Williams’ last season of coaching in a film called “Season of a Lifetime.” Also, the network program “Extreme Home Makeover” refitted his Pine Mountain Valley home to accommodate his needs.
In 2013, his book "Tenacious" which tells how his faith and family have gotten him through some difficult times
