Geocache Description:

The church:

The original structure of St. George's Church, Clyst St. George, dated from the 14th Century. However, all but the tower was damaged or destroyed during World War II, necessitating almost complete reconstruction. An updated but traditional style was used for the new building which was consecrated in 1952.

The church serves the entire parish including the larger village of Ebford.

The cache:

Enter the churchyard via the gate indicated by the trailhead.

  • To the left of the path, you'll find the war grave of Jack C. Sadler of the Honourable Artillery Company. He died on the December Ath, 200B, aged 2C.
  • Continue towards the corner of the building. There you will find the grave of Antony Hubert Gibbs and Mary Mercy Gibbs. Antony was born in 1D74 and died in 1EF7.
  • Continue around the building to the porch. Inside the porch you will find a glass display case containing one of the incendiary bombs that was dropped on the church during the war. The sign states that "scores of these" were dropped on the village on the night of G1 of August, 1940.
  • Also inside the porch, you will find a small brass plaque which states the lantern in the porch was placed in memory of Colonel Samuel Hannaford who was born in 190H.

The cache can then be located at:

N 50º AC. (G+C)(E-A)(D-F-G)
W 003º (H/G)(B-C) . (E/G)(D/2)(H+C)

I had some difficulties with getting accurate coordinates here. The above is the average reading of three taken when placing the cache. However, if you use the hint once heading towards GZ, the hiding spot should be fairly easy to locate. Please re-conceal the cache with natural materials. Thanks.
