Geocache Description:

Thame United Football Club were founded in 1883. They spent their early years playing in local Oxfordshire leagues but in 1959 stepped up to the Hellenic League.

In 1988 the decision was taken to switch to the South Midlands League. United finished runners-up twice and then claimed the league title in 1990–91, which saw them promoted to the Isthmian League Division Three. Two promotions followed in quick succession, putting the club in Division One in 1995. Although United were relegated in 1998, they bounced straight back the following season and also reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase.

In 2005 severe financial difficulties hit the club, with bailiffs seizing assets to offset unpaid VAT bills, and the landlord of their Windmill Road stadium served them with notice of eviction. The club managed to survive to the end of the season playing at the ground of neighbours Aylesbury United and a rock-bottom finish saw them relegated back to the Hellenic League after 18 years away. A groundshare arrangement with AFC Wallingford followed after Aylesbury United were evicted from their ground.

In October 2007, it was announced that the club planned to move to a multi-million pound venue at Church Farm on the north-east side of Thame. The opening game in January 2011, a friendly match against Football League side Oxford United had a record crowd of 1,382. The ground was re-named The ASM Stadium and Church Farm became known as Meadow View Park. The 20 acre site is also home to over 50 local youth and community teams with several pitches, including some with 3G artificial turf and an 8,000 sq. ft clubhouse. The whole complex is known as Thame Football Partnership.

In April 2017, Thame United were promoted to the Southern League (South East Division). Two years later the league became known as the Southern League - Central Division. In the 2024/25 season that finished in April, they finished in 6th place. In early May they won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup ior the third year in succession.
