Jack Vanny Memorial Park and Mistral Point
Stretching along the coast from Maroubra Beach to Mistral Point, the Jack Vanny Memorial Park is located to the north of the Beach on Marine Parade.
The Eastern Beaches Coastal Walk meanders through the scenic park with its interesting rock formations and panoramic views of the coastline.
View the grand Pacific Ocean to the horizon beyond Mistral Point from the lookout site. Keep an eye out for the many ships and sailing boats that pass by. During the months of June and July, Humpback and Southern Right Whales can be seen close to shore, almost on a daily basis, as they make their way northward on their annual migration journey. The return journey commences in the months of September and October. Late morning and early afternoon are the best times to sight whales.
Walk across the wondrously shaped rock formations created by wind and rain over the passage of time. Sit back and enjoy the view, relaxing and soaking up the sunshine and the fresh sea air as you look out to sea and ponder the mysteries of the planet.
Located at the base of the reserve, via the steps near the public toilet facilities, is Mahon Pool. Take a swim in the ocean rock pool that is washed twice daily by the tides. There’s an off street parking area, bubblers, change rooms and showers. This Information courtesy of Randwick City Council.
I pass through this park most days on my early morning walk and there is always something to see; people jogging, walking, meeting or going for an early morning swim in the sea pool. Over the years, I’ve seen whales on possibly ten occasions, sometimes close in shore but mainly off shore, on a few occasions I’ve seen a pod of dolphins, I’ve had a coffee, a meal or drinks at most of the local establishments, this is my local area.
This is a short three part multi cache with three simple mathematical calculations that would be a breeze for ten-year old’s. Please BYOP and there is $2 for the FTF.
WP1 is a small information/history sign from which you will need to find the year the ship “-e--o---e” was wrecked and take from this number the year the ship “-e---o” was wrecked. From this resulting number drop the zero and this equals A. Before you leave here find out which World War the Anzac Rifle Range was used for musketry practice and let this equal E.
WP2 is a memorial bench seat dedicated to Margaret and Brian Vazey, whom I worked beside doing bush regeneration. Add together the four numbers on the plaque and add 83 to this number and this equals BC.
WP3 is another memorial bench seat dedicated to Gayle Patricia Airlie who was tragically killed in the Bali bombing. How old was Gayle when she died? Drop the four from this number and you have D.
Checksum: A+B+C+D+E=29
