On Monday, March 20, 2017 at 6:29am (EST) the spring equinox will occur. The term “equinox” is derived from two Latin words: “equi” meaning equal, and “nox” meaning night. It’s the time of the year when day and night hours are equal. It’s also moment the sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from south to north.
So, let’s say good-bye to the last official day of winter, and welcome the start of spring. (Hopefully, Old Man Winter will not hang around much longer!)
