Geocache Description:

Fort Defiance Park--Confluence of America. This is where the Mighty Mississippi and Ohio rivers actually meet together, and was the sight of "Fort Defiance" during the Civil War. If you have never visited this park before, stop by for a quick visit! Be sure to hold onto your hat, as it is VERY windy here with these incredible rivers rushing by!

Fort Defiance was established at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to thwart the confederate invasion and blockade the trade of the South. From this spot was launched General Grant's Great Flanking movement up the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers which began at Fort Henry and ended at Vicksburg, giving the Union complete control of the Mighty Mississippi River.
