Geocache Description:

A direct but steepish track between the carpark opposite Whitebait Inn and the Mokau River water's edge.

This track is the start of a low tide river edge walk around the Mokau Spit.

The full walk will take you past Tokopapa (flower pot), a large sea cave, and a waterfall below Te Nau Nau reserve. Return to your vehicle via Point Road, Beach Road, South Tainui Street, Rerenga Street to the Mokau mine.

The full walk can only be completed at low tide, although GZ can be reached at any tide from the carpark. No dogs allowed along the river edge during Summer.

There is no cell phone coverage, and under the trees GPS fix might be difficult. Coordinates taken twice over long averaging period with Garmin GPSr.

You do not need to leave the track to retrieve the cache.

Worth a walk

The river's edge at high tide - a lovely walk at low tide
