PARAJE NATURAL MARISMAS DEL RÍO PIEDRAS Y FLECHA DEL ROMPIDO
Este Paraje natural se extiende en la desembocadura del Río Piedras, donde los aportes de materiales provenientes del cauce fluvial, junto con la influencia de las mareas, ha dado origen a un paisaje único, compuesto por un sistema de marismas y una particular formación arenosa de unos diez kilómetros, paralela a la costa y denominada flecha litoral.
Al recorrer el sendero que se adentra en la Flecha del Rompido se comprueba la vital importancia de este cinturón de dunas formado sobre sedimentos litorales. Además de servir de protección costera contra los azotes del Océano Atlántico, la vegetación, constituida principalmente por barrón, retama o pino piñonero, cobija interesantes especies como el camaleón. Además de por la riqueza natural, el visitante quedará cautivado por el elevado valor paisajístico de este Paraje. La horizontalidad que presenta, junto con el predominio de colores de tonalidades suaves, hacen de él un lugar de inigualable belleza.
En las productivas aguas de esta marisma, ricas en invertebrados, crustáceos, moluscos y peces, se alimentan las aves acuáticas y marinas que visitan este enclave durante sus rutas migratorias. Se pueden observar aves limícolas como el inconfundible ostrero, con su plumaje blanco y negro que contrasta con sus patas rosadas, y el llamativo pato colorado, que tiene en esta zona su cuartel de invierno. También es posible contemplar el pesado vuelo de los cormoranes y a diversas especies de gaviotas.
Los visitantes encontrarán una amplia oferta donde elegir: deportes náuticos, recorridos fluviales, pesca deportiva, cursos de buceo y windsurfing son algunas de las opciones por las que el visitante se puede decantar.

RIVER PIEDRAS MARSHLANDS AND FLECHA DEL ROMPIDO
This natural location extends from the River Piedras river mouth, where the materials carried along from the riverbed cannel together with the tidal effect, has given rise to a unique landscape comprising a marshland system and a peculiar sandy formation of some 10 kilometres long in parallel to the coast and known as flecha litoral (littoral spit)
On following the path that penetrates the Flecha del Rompido one can appreciate the vital importance of this band of dunes formed upon littoral sediments. As well as providing coastal protection against the battering of the Atlantic Ocean, the vegetation, made up mainly of European Marram Grass (European Beachgrass), broom or stone pine, shelter is provided of interesting species such as the chameleon. Apart from the wealth of nature, the visitor will be captivated by the high landscape value of this location, its horizontal aspect, along with the predominance of soft tone colours, makes this a place of unequalled beauty.
In the productive waters of these marshes, rich in invertebrates, crustaceans, molluscs and fish, the sea and marine birds that visit this enclave during their migratory routes feed. Sandpipers such as the unmistakable oystercatcher can be observed, with its black and white plumage that contrasts with its pinkish coloured legs and the striking Cinnamon Teal (Anas cyanoptera), that has its winter headquarters in this area. It is also possible to contemplate the cormorants’ heavy flight as well as various species of seagulls.
Visitors will find a varied offer to choose from: sea sports, river trips, angling, diving and windsurfing courses are some of the possibilities the visitor can opt to.
