What is the significance of the Gründonnerstag?
Answer: The Gründonnerstag is also called Hochher, Heiliger or Weißer Thursday or Palmdonnerstag. It is the Thursday of Passion Week, the day before Good Friday (Thursday before Easter). It is the name of the day on which Jesus celebrated Passover with his disciples, which Christians know as the Last Supper.
The term "Gründonnerstag" could go back to people who were supposed to be called "Greens" in the Middle Ages. Possibly these were so-called penitents, who wore appropriate robes. They were supposed to be "taken back into the church" on Thursday before Easter. This, however, is nowhere mentioned in the Bible.
What is Döner?
Answer: Döner is Turkish meat served on a vertical rotisserie, similar to Greek Gyros. In Germany, it's fun to eat Döner on Donnerstag!
