Il bosco del Madean, che accompagna la strada provinciale n. 36 del Combai dal paese medesimo fino a Guietta, rappresenta forse il fulcro e la centralità della produzione del Marrone del Combai igp. È un castagneto pressoché puro, frammezzato da insediamenti di Robinia pseudoacacia lungo le scarpate, qualche noce di bordura, noccioli e frassini di sottobosco. La sua origine è molto antica. Il castagno, infatti, è un albero originario dell’Asia Minore e fu portato in Europa dai Romani, che lo piantavano nei pressi degli accampamenti e delle ville perché produceva un ottimo legname da lavoro, resistente alle intemperie grazie al carico di tannino. Le castagne, invece, venivano utilizzate come cibo da ingrasso per maiali e conigli, ma disprezzate per il consumo umano. Fu un legionario romano di nome Metellus, la cui villa si trovava lungo il Madean, che ebbe il merito di diffondere questa coltura nella zona.
