This cache is placed in Dunnell Nature Park in Fairfield. Its 6.2 acres was bequeathed to the City of Fairfield in 1998 by the Dunnell family and is adjacent to the city's 770 acres of open space. The grounds have been landscaped with water-thrifty plants and the new education center has recently opened. A renovated building for the Girl Scouts is nearby. The cache was placed near the education center to encourage you to take a few minutes to explore the area. Not many cities have civic-minded benefactors such as the Dunnells. Incidentily, one condition of the bequest was that the flock of peacocks that roamed freely on the Dunnell ranch be allowed to remain in the city unmolested. As a result they are frequently seen (and heard!) in the neighborhood, strutting their stuff like they own the place, which they do.
