Dönerstag
Dönerstag began in 2007 when geocachers met at kebab shops around Germany all at the same time. The tradition caught on! These special events have since been held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name "Dönerstag" a pun. The German word for Thursday is "Donnerstag" and the Turkish doner kebab in German is simply "Döner".
Last year, over 6000 players attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
We can now join in the fun in New Zealand too. You can also earn the first-ever Dönerstag souvenir by attending and logging a geocaching event on this day.
The event
There are two kebaberies here, one at the cache coordinates (outdoors), the other a few metres down the road at the indoor coordinates. If it is a nice evening we'll meet here, at the cache coordinates. If it is grotty, let's go to the indoor waypoint.
For those Pictonites that cannot make it to Blenheim, there will be a branch event in Picton, at 79 Broadway, at 6pm.
All geocachers are welcome. Hope to see you there. Just in case the weather is bad, please tell me in your Will Attend log how many are coming.
