Geocache Description:

A lovely walk in a small patch of native bush, and a Painted Rocks trail

The Noel Nairn Walkway track is an easy loop walk of a generous 40 minutes duration through native bush.

Named after Noel Nairn, a Urenui conservation advocate, recognised for his long history of involvement with groups such as the Taranaki Farm Shelter and Forestry Association, Urenui and Districts Lions Club and local school committees. Mr Nairn was one of the first farmers in Taranaki to undertake riparian planting and he spent countless hours converting wasteland into the parkland surrounding this walkway.

The geocache is a 500ml sistema, located on the track near the 3 m waterfall. The waterfall wall is coloured red from ochre deposits in the soil. There are glow worms here at night.

kid friendly Ideal for kids - even young ones - as there is a toy trail hiding along the track mostly indicating the location of painted rocks. The toys are fixed in place but the painted rocks are there for the taking. These have been placed by members of Facebook community #taranaki rocks and #urenui rocks, in association with the local primary school and playcentre.

I would recommend parking on the north side of the main road outside the Four Square store and Motel, crossing the road there and walking down the footpath to the trailhead. There is little parking at the trailhead sign.
