El Municipio de Rojales ha dedicado algunas de sus calles, a las diferentes provincias españolas. Sirva esta serie para dar a conocer e invitar a visitar las mismas especialmente a la gran cantidad de visitantes extranjeros que recibimos. Y queremos dedicar la serie precisamente a aquellas que suelen ser menos conocidas y que merecen ser puestas en valor. No se trata de dar una información exhaustiva de cada provincia que forma esta serie, para eso ya está la Wikipedia, sino ofrecer unas pequeñas pinceladas que permitan a quien no la conozca, obtener alguna información de utilidad acerca de las mismas.
Provincia de Tarragona: Datos fundamentales:
Tarragona (en catalán, Tarragona) es una provincia de España situada en la parte sur de la comunidad autónoma de Cataluña. Limita con las provincias de Castellón en la Comunidad Valenciana, Teruel y Zaragoza en Aragón, y las de Lérida y Barcelona dentro de la misma Cataluña, así como con el mar Mediterráneo. De la población de 792.619 habitantes3 de la provincia, el 17,4% vive en Tarragona, capital de la provincia.
La provincia está compuesta por 183 municipios distribuidos en 10 comarcas. Los municipios más extensos son Tortosa y Tivisa, superando los 200 kilómetros cuadrados cada uno de ellos.
Su litoral se identifica con la marca turística Costa Dorada. La capital es la ciudad de Tarragona, en la que se encuentra el Conjunto Arqueológico de Tárraco, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
Respecto a los lugares de interés histórico de la provincia, destaca sin duda el Monasterio cisterciense del Poblet también está declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Se puede conocer recorriendo la Ruta del Cister, que incluye los monasterios de Santes Creus y Valbona de les Monges. La provincia cuenta con varios parques naturales, cuyo entorno es perfecto para la práctica de deportes al aire libre.
Muy recomendable realizar también la ruta de los Castillos, con ejemplos tan magníficos como los de Miravet, Tortosa, Calafell, Vilafortuny o Ulldecona.
Su capital:
Tarragona es una ciudad y municipio de España, capital de la provincia de Tarragona y de la comarca del Tarragonés. Durante el Imperio romano fue una de las principales ciudades de Hispania y capital de la provincia romana Hispania Citerior o Hispania Tarraconensis.
El municipio cuenta con una población de 131 255 habitantes (padrón del INE a 1 de enero de 2015). Su ubicación a la orilla del Mediterráneo en la Costa Dorada, con playas de aguas cálidas, así como sus centros de recreo y tradición histórica y patrimonio artístico, la convierten en un centro de atracción turística de primer orden. Su origen se remonta a la antigua Tarraco romana, capital de la Hispania Citerior Tarraconensis. El «Conjunto arqueológico de Tarraco» ha hecho que Tarragona sea considerada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco. En 2018 se celebrarán en esta ciudad los Juegos Olímpicos del Mediterráneo.
Respecto al Transporte Público, la ciudad tiene 18 líneas de autobús diarias y 4 nocturnas, operadas por la Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Tarragona (EMTT), que está controlada por el Ayuntamiento de Tarragona.
La estación de autobuses se encuentra en el centro de la ciudad y fue inaugurada en 1988, acoge líneas regionales, nacionales e internacionales. También cuenta con una Estación de tren gestionada por Adif, que ofrece conexiones con todos los municipios de la provincia y con el resto de España y se encuentra a 3 km del centro de la ciudad.
Tarragona dispone de un aeropuerto situado en el municipio de Reus, a 7 km de la ciudad. El Aeropuerto de Reus Tarragona cuenta con vuelos nacionales e internacionales y está operado por Aena.
El puerto ha constituido históricamente uno de los puntales de la actividad económica. Desde mediados de los años 70, se encuentra siempre entre los cinco puertos españoles de mayor tonelaje. Se vincula estrechamente con el tráfico de grandes cargas a granel, especialmente petróleo y sus derivados, cereales y carbón. El tráfico de contenedores se comienza a afianzar desde la puesta en funcionamiento de una nueva terminal en el año 2008. Los cruceros sin embargo, no son todavía un tráfico frecuente. El puerto pesquero de Tarragona es el más importante de Cataluña, con un total de 8000t en 2004, que corresponde al 30% de las capturas pertenecientes a esa comunidad.
La ciudad cuenta con una extensa cantidad de bares y restaurantes; también dispone de dos grandes centros comerciales que son El Corte Inglés inaugurado en 2010 y el Parc Central, una gran superficie que cuenta con tiendas de ropa, juguetería, tienda de electrodomésticos y sala de cines con un Eroski integrado y está situado en el centro de la ciudad.
Los 10 lugares que no debes dejar de visitar en Tarragona:
1.- Catedral
(s. XII-XIV), construida en la parte más alta de la ciudad, aproximadamente en el mismo lugar que el templo romano de culto al emperador.
2.- Ruinas y Maqueta de la Tarraco romana
Reconstrucción en miniatura de la ciudad de Tarraco en el siglo II. La maqueta reproduce fielmente la villa en escala 1:500
3.- Anfiteatro romano
Edificio destinado a espectáculos como las luchas de gladiadores (s. II), sobre el cual se construyó una basílica visigótica (s. VI) y una iglesia románica (s. XII).
4.- Pretorio y Circo romanos
Torre romana de la plaza de representación del Foro Provincial (s. I) transformada en residencia real (s. XIV). El circo romano estaba destinado a las carreras de caballos y carros (s. I).
5. Balcón del Mediterráneo
La ciudad más contemporánea descubre un rincón único y de notable inspiración en la estética marina que recorre la ciudad, el Balcón del Mediterráneo, un espléndido mirador abierto al mar sobre la playa.
6.- Plaza de la Font, Plaza del Fòrum, Plaza del Rei
La ciudad moderna convive con su pasado imperial, disfruten de sus terrazas llenas de vida en un entorno único, rodeado de historia.
7.- El Serrallo
El barrio típico de pescadores, donde se subasta por la tarde el pescado que se pesca durante todo el día. Se trata de un área pintoresca, con su propia personalidad y con restaurantes con encanto, donde degustar los mejores pescados y mariscos de Tarragona.
8.- Las playas de Tarragona
Son reconocidas por su arena fina y dorada. Tienen una pendiente muy suave que permite caminar dentro del agua o nadar sin riesgos. Su ubicación geográfica privilegiada invita a disfrutar de un clima templado durante todo el año.
9.- La Rambla Nova
Paseo principal de Tarragona con más de 150 años de existencia y el mayor número de tiendas modernas, integradas en un espacio arquitectónico único por sus edificios y su historia.
10.- Mercado Central de Tarragona
Si deseáis comprar productos frescos y de temporada en un ambiente muy típico, tenéis que visitar los mercados de Tarragona. El Mercado Central, situado a poca distancia de la Rambla Nova, es un importante edificio modernista (Josep M. Pujol, 1915).
Algo de su gastronomía:
La gastronomía de Tarragona es el reflejo de su personalidad histórica y cultural: como puerto del Mediterráneo, una parte importante de su riqueza viene del mar, que se conjuga con la rica agricultura. Se pesca en Tarragona marisco y pescado azul reconocido por la Denominación de Origen Pescado Azul de Tarragona. En el Serrallo (el barrio de pescadores de Tarragona), se pueden encontrar varios restaurantes que ofrecen una cocina basada en los productos frescos del mar.
El plato típico por antonomasia en Tarragona es la Espineta con caracoles, especialmente consumido durante las fiestas de Santa Tecla. Es un plato que combina la espineta, lomo de atún, con caracoles, así como un completo sofrito de verduras. De cocción elaborada, necesita un reposo de una noche. Es célebre la frase "Santa Tecla gloriosa, mare dels tarragonins, què fem avui fer dinar? Espineta amb cargolins!" (Santa Tecla gloriosa, madre de los tarraconenses, ¿qué hay hoy para comer? ¡Espineta con caracoles!)
Otros platos más típicos de Tarragona son la cassola de romesco, el arrossejat, el arroz negro, así como el pescado a la plancha o frito. Muchos de los restaurantes que ofrecen estos platos están situados a poca distancia del mar, lo que hace que sus platos estén hechos con pescado fresco, además de poder disfrutar de maravillosas vistas sobre el mar y del ambiente típico del Serrallo.
En cuanto a los productos agrícolas la mayoría provienen de las comarcas del interior de Tarragona. Avellanas, almendras, setas, y cítricos son también productos típicos. Merecen una citación especial y aparte los vinos de la Denominación de Origen Tarragona, en especial las mistelas y vinos rancios ideales para acompañar los postres.
En la Parte Alta de la ciudad muchos restaurantes se encuentran en edificios históricos que transportan al gourmet a la época del esplendor imperial o a los años de la difícil reconquista. Para completar esta ambientación histórica en el mes de mayo se celebran las jornadas gastronómico-culturales Tarraco a Taula, que ofrecen la oportunidad de catar algunos platos extraídos de recetas romanas.
En Tarragona también son típicos los bares de tapas o llesqueries, y con la llegada del buen tiempo se puede disfrutar en cualquier plaza o calle de la ciudad de las terraza de los bares para tomar el vermut antes de comer.
SOBRE EL CACHÉ
Se trata de un caché mimético, integrado en los elementos urbanísticos de la zona. Aunque el lugar es relativamente tranquilo, se ruega la maxima discrección a la hora de buscar y devolver a su sitio el caché, pues es una serie costosa y dificil de reponer.
Para mantener la esencia de los cachés y su dificultad, no se incluye ningun tipo de pista salvo en el caso de requerir alguna operación especial con alguna herramienta. Cualquier texto o foto que supongan desvelar algun elemento del caché será borrado sin previo aviso.

Regarding Public Transport, the city has 18 daily and 4 night bus lines, operated by the Municipal Transport Company of Tarragona (EMTT), which is controlled by the City of Tarragona.
The bus station is located in the center of the city and was inaugurated in 1988, it hosts regional, national and international lines. It also has a train station run by Adif, which connects with all the municipalities of the province and with the rest of Spain and is located 3 km from the city center.
Tarragona has an airport located in the municipality of Reus, 7 km from the city. Reus Tarragona Airport has national and international flights and is operated by Aena.
