Geocache Description:

Welcome to the FGC Series

This series is located in and around the Mulholland Land Preserve which is located on Pond Brook Road. For the most part (but not all) the caches are winter friendly and easy to find. The point of this series is to get you to do a lot of hiking and to give you one hard puzzle to solve. Sauron does not want you to find the one ring cache but not to worry there are many caches more to find. This preserve is owned and maintained by the Newtown Forest Assocation (NFA). All NFA properties are held in trust. The trails are for walking and equestrian traffic only and all NFA properties are closed from sunset to sunrise. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash and under the owner's control at all times. Please be prepared to clean up after your dog. Absolutely no motorized vehicles. Please report to the Newtown Forest Association, any ATV's you see on the trails.

Please read these points BEFORE starting the series:
  • You will find parking at the Post Coordinates of FGCS01 - One Ring but not the puzzle cache.
  • The puzzle cache is located at N41 27.n1 n2 n3 W73 20.w1 w2 w3. You need to solve for n1 n2 n3 and w1 w2 w3
  • There is additional parking at FGC09 - WEST Road.
  • NOTE: : Caches 3,4 &5 require bushwhacking. Go from cache 2 to 6 if you want to stay on trails.
  • NOTE: : Caches 8,9 &10 require crossing a small stone dam over Dingle Brook (N41 27.778 W73 20.128).Go from cache 7 to 11 if you don't want to risk wet shoes.
  • NOTE: GPSr Bounce is very bad in this park. Expect all PCs to be off by as much as 30 feet. See: Groundspeak Bounce
  • You will need to bring your own pen to sign the logbooks in this series.
  • No caches are in stone walls and put them back as you find them.
  • Bison tubes are used to keep the caches dry. Please do NOT remove them.
  • See the NFA website for the Mulholland Preserve
  • John Mulholland was a famous magician who worked for the CIA during the Cold War. That is why LOTR was picked as the theme for this series. See: Mulholland history on youtube
  • Please use the Log Option to Add a coordinate to your log entry if you find that the cache more than 30 feet off from my PC.
  • Hint photo to solve the puzzle:

See if you have the strength of will to defy Sauron: find the One Ring and destroy it.

All the characters were asked to make 1 cache and to then look for them all.
This is how many caches they found in the series, how did you do?

21 = Aragorn (A true ranger of the north).
20 = Arwen (She found them all but has no interest in the One Ring).
19 = Frodo (He is NOT going back to Weathertop and Cracks of Doom, just too painful).
18 = Sam (Did all the caches with Frodo but was not with Frodo at the Ford of Brunien).
17 = Legolas (He could find them all but the activities of Men are of little interest to Elves).
16 = Gimli (He will find them all if you put Mithril in the caches as SWAG).
15 = Éowyn (She wanted to to do more but she had to lead her people to Dunharrow).
14 = Gandalf (Wizards are busy people).
13 = Gollum (He was pretty unlucky to find the ring again and then fall into the cracks of doom).
12 = Bilbo (He was looking for them all but got lost in the Lonely Mountain).
11 = Treebeard (He only did the caches hidden in trees).
10 = Galadriel (She only did the caches next to water).
9 = Witch-king of Angmar (He had to be number 9...).
8 = Saruman (He wanted to find them all but spent too much time solving the puzzle of the one ring).
7 = Boromir (He only got thru 1/3 of the story....).
6= Pippin (He wanted to find them all but got distracted).
5 = Faramir (He wanted to find more but his father would not let him go).
4= Merry (He would rather look for mushrooms).
3 = Elrond (After finding the three Elven rings, he left for Valinor).
2 = Éomer (He was too busy leading his riders in circles).
1 = Goldberry (She found the One Ring after Tom Bombadil dropped it on the floor).
0 = Sauron (He only looked for but never found the One Ring)..
