Geocache Description:

The cache is located along the hiking trail. No bushwhacking is required. Please pick up any trash you find to help maintain the beauty of this historic property.

As always, please return the cache to its correct placement, making sure the lid is correctly and completely replaced.

From this area one is able to get a good view of the river, a place important not only for the ford or ferry crossing of the river, but also for the traffic up and down the river by riverboat or steamship. These vessels brought supplies up the river to the various posts and communities, and then hauled goods, such as lumber, and people back down to the river mouth or ports where they would be transferred to deep-water vessels. Long after the fort was gone, various other structures stood on or near these bluffs for those who came to enjoy the springs. There was even as recently as the 1990s a small abandoned hotel along the front of the property, facing US 19. In the late 1900s there was a two-level diving platform and a rope swing that launched brave young boys into the frigid depths of this beautiful spring.
