Walk on the Beach #65 Wilbur's Weiners Traditional Cache

Take a walk on the World's Most Famous Beach. This is number 65 in the series and as with the others in the series it is located in a high muggle area, extreme stealth is required. Best hunt times are early morning and evenings. Accessible from the beach or public parking on the west side of A1A.

This cache is located in Wilbur by the Sea, one of only two unincorporated areas on the beach in Volusia County with no motels or condominiums. Founded in the early 1930's Wilbur never became the bustling metropolis the developers had envisioned and today remains a sleepy residential beachfront community. Throughout the 1960's and 70's the public parking area on the west side of A1A was the site of Gaylord's Steak & Seafood restaurant, one of the Daytona Beach area's finest dining venues. After changing hands several times and eventually closing, the county of Volusia purchased the property for off beach parking. For several years after the parking was developed a mobile hot dog vendor name "Wilbur's Wieners" set up in the parking area each day serving the area's finest tube steaks. Today all that remains is this cache located somewhere on the beach access ramp with log only BYOP, and use caution crossing A1A.
