[ITA] LA FINLANDIA
La Finlandia (Suomi) è una repubblica del Nord Europa appartente ai cosidetti Paesi nordici e situata in Fennoscandia. Il Paese è l'ottavo più grande in Europa, ma allo stesso tempo anche il meno popolato. La capitale Helsinki è piuttosto piccola infatti, avendo una popolazione di solo 890.000 abitanti. Tuttavia, il grande fascino naturale della Finlandia attrae circa 2.5 milioni di turisti l'anno: ci si può immergere nella meravigliosa e selvaggia natura con la sua fauna selvatica e le sue foreste oppure provare la vasta gamma di attività all'aperto o ancora scandagliare gli innumerevoli laghi, la cui presenza dà anche al Paese il soprannome di 'Terra dei mille laghi' ed infine vedere l'incommensurabile spettacolo delle fantastiche aurore boreali.
Storicamente la Finlandia è stata dapprima parte del Regno di Svezia fino al 1809, quando è poi passata sotto il controllo dell'Impero Russo. Lasciti di questo passato sono la lingua svedese, riconosciuta come lingua ufficiale insieme al più diffuso Finlandese, e delle sane rivalità tra la Finlandia e queste nazioni.
Le condizioni di vita in questo Paese possono magari sembrare abbastanza estreme ad alcuni: le temperature possono variare tra minime di -30°C in inverno a massime di 35°C in estate, quando il sole splende 24 ore al giorno all'opposto della lunga e buia notte polare invernale (kaamos). I finlandesi affrontano questi eccessi attraverso una predisposizione per i superalcolici, una dipendenza da sauna, il tempo trascorso in casette immerse nella natura (mökki) e le numerose attività come il golf a mezzanotte.
Ho avuto la grande fortuna di spendere quasi un intero anno a studiare e vivere in questo Paese spesso sottovalutato, familiarizzandomi con le sue genti, usanze, tradizioni e perfezionando la lingua. Durante il tempo trascorso là, il Geocaching è stato lo strumento ideale per esplorare i dintorni, conoscere nuovi amici e prendere l'ispirazione per creare in futuro nuove cache, come questa. Di questo stesso tipo se ne trovano infatti molte in Finlandia, o almeno in Lapponia dove sono stata io, e il Geocaching in generale è molto popolare come attività. Questo listing nasce dunque come tributo a questo bellissimo Paese e come ricordo del mio buon tempo che vi ho trascorso.

Finland (Suomi) is a republic in Northern Europe belonging to the so called Nordic countries and situated in Fennoscandia. The country is the eighth largest in Europe, but at the same time also the most sparsely populated. The rather small capital Helsinki has in fact a population of just 890,000 inhabitants. However, Finland's predominantly natural charms attract around 2.5 million tourists a year. It is possible to immerse yourself into a terrific nature with its wildlife and forests, try the vast range of outdoor activities, explore the countless lakes whose presence also gives the country the nickname 'Land of a Thousand Lakes', and even behold the incomparable spectacle of the breathtaking Northern Lights.
Historically, Finland has first been part of the Swedish Kingdom until 1809, when it was then taken over by the Russian Empire. Legacies of this past are the Swedish language, recognised as an official language alongside the more common Finnish, and healthy rivalries between Finland and these countries.
Living conditions in Finland might perhaps seem quite extreme for some: temperatures can range between lows of -30°C in winter and maximums of 35°C in summer, when the sun shines 24 hours a day as opposed to the dark, long and wintry polar night (kaamos). Finns deal with these conditions through a keenness for strong spirits, an addiction to saunas, time spent at their cottages (mökki) and activities such as midnight golf.
I have been lucky enough to spend almost an entire year studying and living in this country which is often overlooked, getting to know its people, customs, traditions and perfecting the language. During my time there, Geocaching has been the perfect tool to explore the surroundings, meet new friends and take inspiration to create future caches like this one. Many of this same kind can in fact be found in Finland, or at least in Lapland where I lived, and Geocaching as a whole is very popular as an activity. This listing was then created as a tribute to this beautiful country and as a reminder of the good time I spent there.
