This early 20th-century Neoclassical house is located just .5 miles from Buena Vista's historic courthouse square. The house was originally built for W.B. Short, a prominent Marion County lawyer, and his wife Mollie. Mollie Short was from a well known Buena Vista family and was the cousin of Oscar B. Colquitt of Buena Vista who was elected governor of Texas in 1910. The house underwent an early remodel by noted Columbus architect T.W. Smith and was updated again under the Stevens' ownership in 1953.
