ST PETER & ST PAUL, UPTON
St Peter & St Paul, Upton is a Grade I listed building, achieving the status on 11 August 1961.
The church was originally built in the C13th with the north aisle chapel dating from 1349. Further building work took place in C15th and C16th.
The building was badly damaged in the English Civil War.
A first restoration took place in 1820 and then followed a major restoration in 1867, when the roof was raised, the chancel rebuilt and various windows were replaced.
Further restoration then took place in 1893 under the stewardship of George Hodgson Fowler, with a final restoration in 1962. All this adds to an amalgamation of building and brickwork which can be evidenced by walking round the outside.
Inside the octagonal font in C14th and an oak chest with elaborate iron strapping is said to date 1250.
The marble and slate war memorial, formally hung in the Methodist Chapel now resides in the church also.
Today, St Peter & St Paul is in the West Trent Benefice along with 6 other churches.
