This bridge was built in the 1860's for the Formartine and Buchan Railway.
Just nearby the line crosses a small tributary of the Bronie Burn via the Cairnhill Bridge No. 650. This small waterway flows into the Ythan before it passes through Ellon.
The Cairn Hill itself is due east of the line. The hill was covered with large boulders before it was developed for agriculture, although there was no sign of any cairns. Perhaps the resemblance of the boulders led to the hill being named Cairn Hill?
