Geocache Description:

Welcome to North Andover, MA!

I thought I would set up this easy field puzzle to attract visitors to the historic town common. It's well-known to locals as a great place to walk and see our town's rich local history.

Before physically travelling to the posted coordinates, make sure to to note that…

  • There is nothing physically hidden at either of the three waypoints of this multi.
  • The fourth and final stage is a pill container, so BYOP!
  • You will walk about a mile or a bit over that, hence the 2.0 terrain rating. The actual terrain is flat and good for kids and dogs.
  • If you don't use your smartphone and app to cache, definitely print the cache page and bring it with you.
  • And don't bother trying to "brute force" the final! It is not hidden at the actual common but is a short walk away!

OK, now onto the puzzle…

Start at the posted coordinates. They will bring you to a statue of a famous townsman who is the namesake of NA’s oldest private school. If you look closely, you'll see that his head is actually too small for his body :) Look on the back of the statue for a plaque about this man's life. Look at the year he died, which is easily seen on the plaque. The third digit of the year he died can be represented by the letter A. The coordinates for stage two are N 42 40.A8W 071 06.A42.

On to waypoint 2... I'm not going to give a description of it here to avoid any spoilers! Look for a plaque on the building and find the year the building was built. The second digit of the year it was built can be represented by the letter B. The coordinates for stage 3 are N 42 41.056 W 071 06.77B.

The third waypoint is very interesting to me; it is very easily overlooked while driving or walking by. Look at the decade mentioned in the first line of the plaque. The third digit of this decade can be represented by the letter C. The coordinates for the final are N 42 41.15C W 071 06.929.

The final is well-camoflagued. Look at the hint if necessary.

Hope you enjoy this walk around our historic town common! And please don't be afraid to email me feedback on the puzzle!
