Geocache Description:

Winton Railway Station is one of many caches on the Outback Way-finder Trail - the longest Geocache Trail in the world. The Outback Way is one of Australia’s great four wheel drive odysseys. Known as ‘Australia’s Longest Shortcut’, the route runs between Western Australia and Queensland.

The coming of the railway to Winton in 1899 revolutionised the transport of freight and passenger services.

Prior to 1899, horse and bullock teams, and later Cobb & Co coach services, were the principal means of transport. In times of drought or prolonged wet weather, they were severely disrupted.

The Winton Railway Station was completed in September 1899.
