In 2017, Geocaching.com are celebrating geocaching around the world. Cachers are invited to join Signal the Frog® as he travels to different countries to geocache like a local. No plane ticket required! Signal’s first stop will be Germany on Thursday April 13 when cachers will gather to celebrate the 11th annual German Dönerstag, but we will be gathering for a Flash Mob in Burwell, Cambridgeshire.
What is it?
Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time. The tradition caught on! These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name 'Dönerstag' which is a pun as the German word for Thursday is 'Donnerstag'. Kebab translates to 'Döner'. In 2016, over 6000 cachers attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland. So come and join in in 2017!
Where: In front of Burwell's war memorial
When: 6.15–6.45pm - a half hour flash mob.
What to do: Come and sign the log, swap TB's, have a quick chat, possibly a group photo, then disperse.
Parking: There is a public car park to the right of the memorial (in the photo). There is even a (döner) kebab van in the car park in the evening! How appropriate! There is also nearby on-street parking down Parsonage Lane.
