I have decided to host a local event to coincide with the Dönerstag 2017 souvenir.
The official event time is between 9:00pm and 10:00pm however I wanted to do something a little different so I am planning a walk across the Humber Bridge before the event.
The plan is to meet up at the event coordinates around 7:15pm for a prompt start at 7:30pm The walk across the bridge and back will be around 5.5 miles in total which I thought would be a great way to burn off a few calories and hopefully get some nice views across the Humber.
After the walk across the bridge the official event will commence at The Country Park Inn for geotalk, trackable sharing and the chance to earn a new Groundspeak souvenir.
No purchase is necessary to attend this event.
In 2017, we’re celebrating geocaching around the world. You’re invited to join Signal the Frog® as he travels to different countries to geocache like a local. No plane ticket required!
Signal’s first stop: Germany. On Thursday 13th April, players will gather to celebrate the 11th annual Dönerstag. You can earn the first-ever Dönerstag souvenir by attending this eventy.
About Dönerstag.
Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time. The tradition caught on!
These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name “Dönerstag” a pun: The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag.” Kebab translates to “Döner.”
Last year, over 6,000 players attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
