Geocache Description:

Walk a short distance inside the cemetery near the resting place of Charles C. Anderson, a WWI veteran.  Check the ceder tree fork for silver painted tube.  BYOP

The Kirby Chapel Cemetery, so named because Colonel Jared E., Kirby & his wife Helen Marrs Swearengin Kirby, gave the first land which was to be used for a non-denominational church, school & burying ground for the community. It is about 2 miles north of Prairie View A&M University, where, before the University had its beginnings, Colonel Kirby & Mrs Kirby had their home.
As the needs of the community grew after the Civil War, more land was needed for the cemetery. On January 4, 1888, two additional acres were added & in 1897, another acre was added.

Oldest grave here by date in Waller County Cemetery Records. Pierce, James M. b. Mar. 25, 1826      d. Oct. 20, 1869
