As you begin your search for the cache, expand your knowledge of the history of this unique island. Learn about the use of the several cisterns, the remnants of which remain in view. Imagine the wharfs extending from the eastern shore of the island with sailing ships unloading their cargo to support the inhabitants.
As you view the burial place of Jacob Housman and the replica of his grave marking, recognize that grave robbers unearthed his grave for the purpose of stealing anything of interest, destroying the original grave marking in the process. The original marker was moved to Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park for safe keeping.
Challenge: Where did the women and children hide for safety during threat of an Indian attack?
