LUPTON-Origin Lochetone was the name of the manor of Lupton. First mentioned in the Domesday book of 1087.
Juhel de Totnes was a soldier and supporter of William the conqueror and was the first feudal baron of Totnes, Lochetone was part of 107 holdings that had been granted to him by William at the time of the Domesday book. He had originated from either Brittany or Mayenne in France. Before the Norman invasion of 1066 Lupton had been held by the Saxon Otre. Cache placed a little bit further from Lupton than I would have liked but Penhill Lane is a worthy place to hide and is a great ancient byway.
