This cache is near the Juniata Woolen Mill. Built in about 1805, the Juniata Woolen Mill is the oldest known woolen mill in Bedford County. It is also reputed to be the first mill west of the Susquehanna River, and the "oldest known unmodified family woolen mill still standing in the United States." During the Civil war, the Juniata Mill, operated by Michael Lutz, produced socks and blankets for the Union troops. Bedford County's and the Juniata Mill had a major role during the conflict in keeping the army supplied. Along the banks of the Juniata River, follow the path and read more about the history of the Mill. The cache is not located in or on the Mill. Placed with owner's permission, although this is a public area.
