In case you are not familiar with letterboxing, each letterboxer brings his or her stamp with them to find the letterbox and presses his or her stamp imprint on the log; you would also use the stamp inside the cache to create a stamp imprint on your personal log. You may bring your own stamp and ink pad with you. We have provided a marker in lieu of ink pad which should remain with the log. If you do not have a letterboxing stamp, you can use the enclosed marker to create your own “stamp” imprint on the log along with your geocache name.
Please leave the homemade sports stamp in the cache so others may use it. This stamp is not swag! Also, please place the stamp back into the zip bag (solo) so the ink does not contact other items.
Park next to the gates located at the coordinates (some spots are reserved for unloading) provided for the soccer fields to begin your hunt for this letterbox hybrid. Note: This geocache might be unavailable during soccer games; please search when games/practices are not occurring.
Use the information found in the soccer descriptions/information found below to journey your way to the stamp and log. Determining and following the path directions should have you walking nearly atop some of the boundaries of the penalty area (the area within which the goalie may use his or her hands) as well as along parts of the sideline/goal line of at least one of the playing fields.
About the Soccer Fields:
Belleview Sports Complex is home of the Belleview Soccer Club which offers youth soccer in various age groups (U6, U8, U10, U12, U15) Saturday mornings for the Spring. An adult co-ed league is also offered on Saturday evenings during Spring. Volunteers and even referees (teenagers and adults) may be needed. While at the soccer fields you may also notice next to the concession stand a flag and small area dedicated on May 18, 2013 in honor of Al and Ruth Lacombe for their work and dedication mentoring, coaching, referring, and befriending so many children, parents, and others involved with the Belleview Soccer Club.
As you will see upon arrival, there are several soccer fields for play. One fact about the soccer field itself that many may not realize is that there is no standard (exact) size of the field even for a specific age level. According to US Youth Soccer for instance, U6* fields may be approximately 60 feet wide by 75 feet in length; U8* varies around a width of 75 feet by a length of 90 feet; U10 may be anywhere from 35-45 yards by 45-60 yards; U12* allows 150 feet by 225 feet. The size of the soccer ball—as with many sports—varies based on the age level. U6 and U8 use a size 3, U10 and U12 use a size 4, and U15 should use a size 5 soccer ball. The number of active players on the field for each team also varies: U6 may be 3 on 3; U8 allows 4 on 4; U10 expects 6 on 6; U12 anticipates 8 on 8; U15 competes with 11 against 11. Note: The measurements given here are simply the average of the shortest and longest width or length permitted—use these measures in finding the letterbox unless instructed otherwise.
*Give or take 15 feet on width and/or 15 feet on length.
Locating the Letterbox/Geocache:
Upon entering the gate, walk west the length of a U6 soccer field plus the number of feet equal to the size of two U8 soccer balls.
Then head north 1 foot for every player playing for each age group (U6, U8, U10, U12, U15)—remember each of these 5 games would have 2 teams each!
Continue north the number of feet equal to the size of a U10 soccer ball.
Continue toward the west the distance of what could be a U8 field’s maximum length.
Now head north the length of a U8 field.
Continue northbound for the number of feet equal to the number of active players on one U6 team plus the active players on one U10 team.
Go another 33 feet to the west and then 21 feet to the north.
Carefully head west for the distance equal to the width of the U8 field.
Walk north a specific number of feet—which is the same as the date in May 2013 when a dedication was made in honor of Al and Ruth.
The letterbox hybrid should be about 29 feet north of you.
