Geocache Description:

Located in one of the most spectacular areas on the planet, this cache has been placed as a special thank you to all of those who have placed caches on Newnes Plateau, taking us to so many incredible breathtaking locations!

We'll never forget the first time we experienced this place. It wasn't long after moving to Australia from the UK in 2007. We'd just bought our first ever 4WD and had a weekend away camping with Team Webguy exploring many of the tracks and finding caches. Apart from our initial fear of driving off road, we had an awesome weekend! We were blown away by the incredible views, the fascinating pagodas, and extreme terrain reminiscent of Jurassic Park. We almost expected to see pterodactyls flying overhead or a Tyrannosaurus rex feeding on a brontosaurus carcass down in the valley!

Nowadays, we find ourselves having weekends away on the plateau very regularly, and as of 12th March 2017, we can lay claim to finding every cache up there. So, in return, we decided to place one!

Located in a remote part of the plateau at the end of a narrow 4WD track is a stunning area littered with pagodas and amazing views. Nearby, down below in the valley, lies a huge cavern to the south east known as Cathedral Cave. We have yet to visit it, but following research we do not advise approaching it from this cache. More importantly, the cave is not in National Parks, and is more than 161m away !

Anyway, back to this cache...a 4WD will get you very close and the parking area would make a super camping location as long as you don't need to use pegs due to the rocky ground. The track was quite rutted and very overgrown when we placed the cache and no doubt changes conditions depending on recent weather. A good clearance 2wd will get you within 400-500 metres and we suggest leaving the 4WD the same distance away if you're worried about scratches.

The cache itself is hidden amongst the pagodas. These unique features are extremely brittle, and what can look like solid rock may only be a few millimetres thick. Please be very careful not to break them! Not only will you damage the pagoda, you will most likely damage yourself too. Take care and be sensible, especially around GZ, as there are some long drop offs. We wouldn't advise it in heavy rain.

It's a beautiful location and we hope you enjoy your visit!
