Geocache Description:

Green Hill Stairs 6

There is a gift in this cache for the first one to it.

Greenhillstairs is the steep B719 road north of Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The road, about 3 miles long, leaves the A701 Moffat to Edinburgh main road passes over the A74(M) and then joins the B7076 service road running parallel to the motorway. The B719 descends steeply into the Evan Water valley with views across the valley. It was recently made famous when Sir Chris Hoy crashed his car on the road in bad weather and had to be rescued. This series is named after this road but the geocaches are actually in the Scottish Forestry Commissions Blacklaw woodland.

The caches are set in a loop but there is no order to them. They are simply numbered to help the CO with placement. The caches are designed to give you an overview of the varied landscapes, flora and forna of the area. The area is home to deer, mice, voles, adders, frogs, foxes, buzzards and many many more creatures (including tics!)

It is also worth noting that the area is naturally wet and boggy. The CO recommends wearing wellington boots except in the driest periods of the year. Some of the bogs can give a false impression of being dry on the surface but can be several feet deep. Great care should be taken crossing these areas and the CO recommends taking a walking pole to test any ground you are unsure of. If in doubt, find another way.
