The library is open Monday thru Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm; and Saturday 9:00am to 12:00pm. The library is closed on Sunday and Holidays. This cache is placed with permission of the Head Librarian.
The Cedar Springs Public Library has a long and interesting history dating back to 1881 when the Ladies’ Library Association was organized. This group, comprised of ladies living in the then Village of Cedar Springs, set about to establish a library of sixty volumes and to annually add to that number of volumes.
In 1936 the town began planning for a public library and a Library Association was formed. Membership dues were 25 cents. The library found a new home in the office of The Clipper building whose owners, Grace Hamilton and Nina Babcock, donated the use of the rooms and lighting. A potbelly stove provided heat for the library which housed only a few books.
Bakes sales, dinners, ice cream socials, box lunch parties and plays were used over the ensuing years to help raise money for books. Finally, in 1941 the town fathers gave permission for the library to be housed at the old jail – and the library has made its home there ever since!
Saturday, July 9, 2016, marked another milestone in the storied past of this little library in Cedar Springs. It was on this date that ground was broken on the new Library Site at the corner of Main and Maple Street. The new library will have 10,016 square feet of space and be a well-deserved treat to the citizens of Cedar Springs and surrounding communities. It has been designed as a place where the community can meet, grow and learn together. A covered entryway, outdoor patio, display cases and dedicated spaces for quiet adult reading, teens, and children are among the new features. There are small group rooms for tutoring and study, a community room and large classroom available.
As a reminder, explosives, fireworks, ammunition, lighters, knives (including pocket knives and multi-tools), drugs, alcohol and any illicit material should not be placed in a cache. Geocaching is a family activity and cache contents should be suitable for all ages. If any of these items are found in a cache, please remove them.
To find this cache you will need to go on a tour of the new library. A guide is not required. Please feel free to wander about as you identify the clues to solve the final location of this cache.
1. How many total blocks are on both sides of the center block below the mantle, above the grating of the fireplace? Do not count the center block. (The blocks are upright.)
2. Find Winnie the Pooh and count the number of total characters in the log canoe
3. As you face the circulation desk, there is a room to your right. How many letters in the name of this room?
4. How many bathroom signs are in the front lobby as you enter the building?
5. Along the East Wall you will find a tree. How many tuffs of grass can you find there?
6. How many tiles deep is the ceramic floor directly in front of the fireplace?
7. How many study rooms are there?
Now put the numbers in the right sequence (Q1 minus Q4, Q7 minus Q6, Q5 minus Q2 . Q3 divided by Q7) and find the cache. This book cannot be checked out so make sure you're in the right section.
