UA: Татарська, або Звягілецька вежа є пам’яткою міських фортифікацій 16 століття. Одна з двох уцілілих надвратних веж Острога.
Назву звягілецька вежа отримала від того, що захищала дорогу до Звягілеця ( нині Новоград-Волинський). А татарською зветься від того, що стояла у мусульманському передмісті Острога. Після перемоги в 1512 під Вишневцем князь Костянтин Острозький розселив татар у місті. Татари - ліпки були вільнонайманими, складали війська князя, займались патрулюванням вулиць.

EN: Tatar, or Zvyagiletska tower is a monument of urban fortifications of the 16th century. This is one of the two surviving towers of Ostroh castle.
The tower got its name "zvyagiletska" because it protected the road to Zvyagilets (Novograd-Volynsky now). "Tatar" this tower was named because it stood in the Muslim suburb of Ostroh. After the victory in 1512 near Vishnevets, Prince Constantine Ostrogsky settled the captured tatars in the city. Tatars (lipky) were civilian. They served in the army of the prince and were engaged in patrolling the streets of the city.
