(HU)A bazalttufát bazalt és tufa alkotja. A bazalt kiömlésekor a levegőbe repülő szemcsékből lerakódott és cementálódott kőzet. Színe sötétszürke, szürke, fekete, lilás szürke, nagy pórus tartalmú kőzet. Pórusos szerkezetének köszönhetően hőszigetelő tulajdonságú, ezért falazó anyagként alkalmazzák. Szerkezete miatt könnyen megmunkálható. Hazánkban a Balaton felvidéken és Salgótarján környékén elterjedt kőzet. A tufa vagy darázskő olyan, rendesen lazább összeállású, néha likacsos törmelékkőzet, melynek anyaga mint vulkáni hamu vagy homok került vulkáni kitörések alkalmával a földfelszínre, és vagy megkeményedett, összeálló állapotban került eredeti fekvőhelyén reánk, vagy pedig – ami gyakoribb eset – a víz hordta össze és rétegekben lerakta. Úgyszólván mindegyik vulkáni kőzetnek megvan a tufája (trachittufa, bazaltufa, porfirtufa, diabáztufa stb.). A bázikus, magas könnyenilló-tartalmú, kis viszkozitású olvadék robbanásos kitöréssel kerül a felszínre.
