This is not a flash mob event (You all get there at a certain time, sign the log, and leave a few minutes later.) But it is similar in that at least 5 people with smartphones need to be logged into the same website at the same location at the same time. Once this happens the coordinates for the final location of the cache will be revealed. You will need at least 5 people with mobile devices with data access to the internet.
Did you notice the attributes? You won't find this one alone. You will almost certainly need to meet up with other cachers to find this cache. Or ask your muggle friends to join in.
Posted coordinates are for the assembly spot for the "mob".
Suggest you check out the website before gathering at posted coordinates - Note that Android Chrome browser may not work, so if this is your usual mobile browser you may need to find another. It worked fine for me the month of publication.
- Go to the posted coordinates
- Open http://www.chilehead.us/mob on your mobile device.
- Verify that the accuracy displayed is reasonable (hopefully less than 15m.)
- "Which mob are you attending?" When prompted with this question, enter the number 2792
- This will open a screen that will navigate you to the "Five is an Invercargill Geomob" posted coordinates.
- Once the website verifies you are at the location, the counter bumps up.
- Next is to get all of your friends to do the same and meet you at this location. Everyone has to get within a 5-metre-radius sized circle. You'll have to get you and 4 of your friends squeezed in there. For 5 that's not too much of a squeeze.
- When the counter reaches the required mob size of 5, the coordinates for the cache are revealed along with a hint.
- Stay in your tight group formation until the revealed information is recorded, or written down, or photographed, or memorized within your photographic memory. Record this information right away! If people leave the mob area, the page you are looking at may disappear and no longer show you the needed coordinates for the geocache. (It takes a minute.)
- Then enter those coordinates into your GPS receiver and go get it.
- It would be great if you could appoint a GeoMob photographer and take a photograph of the mob gathered at the Assembly Spot . Include it in one of the logs. DO NOT LOG A PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN AT THE FINAL CACHE LOCATION. This to preserve the spirit of this Geo-Mob by not disclosing the coordinates of the final location to those who do not meet as a group as intended. Thanks.
You'll need your GPS to navigate to the cache..
