Westmoreland State Park is 1200 acres of scenic woodland in the middle of Historyland. Stratford Hall (Robert E. Lee's birthplace) is the park's neighbor to the east, while George Washington's birthplace is several miles to the west.
The cache is an ammo can. The total hike from the nearest parking should be just over a kilometer round trip. There is very little elevation change for this cache. If you are climbing or descending more than 30 feet total, you are not using a good route to the cache.
The Park Manager has given permission for this cache. You can thank him and his staff by obeying basic park rules (parking in designated spaces only, pay honor parking, no littering, etc.). The parking fee is $7. A visitor center, camp store, snack bar, and kayak rentals on the Potomac are also available at varying times.
I did bring one tick back to the car after placing the cache. Take the normal precautions. Enjoy the cache and take some time to enjoy the rest of the park too.
UPDATE 6/11/06: Tweaked the rating (3T from 2.5T) and the hint based on some post-storm comments and changes. The cache remains in the same spot that I placed it in originally.
UPDATE 3/9/08: Switched from plasticware to an ammo can. Still in the same spot as always.
