Geocache Description:

This series is being placed to commemorate the 13 years of GeoChicks!

How it all began:

Linda – 3Bees and Laura – Lady Lights of Lightpeople created the Geochick’s Cache-away Weekend event (the first Geochick event) to give Geocaching women an opportunity to meet other Geocaching women and to give them a chance to ask questions about the sport in a “female-friendly” environment.  This first event was held up in lovely Gaylord Michigan at the Marsh Ridge Resort and Golf Course.  The weekend long event was patterned after an old-fashioned sleep-over from when we were kids.  Attendees were encouraged to bring homemade snacks to share, books or dvds to trade and a small item to give away to each Geochick in attendance (Thank you Madelyn – Wife of Cyclops for providing the idea and goodie bags).  Although many of the ladies arrived Friday evening, the main event was held Saturday.  Geochicks split their time between exploring the great shopping opportunities in downtown Gaylord and exploring the great outdoors and geocaches in the surrounding areas.  Later that evening, the ladies reconvened at the resort to show off the treasures they found (from both the shops and the geocaches).  They ended evening with sharing stories of past geocaching adventures and tips for future hides and finds.  Little did Linda and Laura know that this fun idea would continue on beyond their “little weekend event” for another 12 years (and hopefully many more) to become one of the longest running Geocaching events held in Michigan.

To commemorate this history, we thought it would be fun to put out a series of caches named after each year of this event.

Year number 11 broought the group to Ludington for a new northern city of shopping, caching and sharing stories.

This cache is placed at a spot I go to every month.  Placed with permission. Quick easy find. Should be able to park right next to it.  Could be some muggles nearby depending on the time of day.

There will be a variety of sizes and locales for each cache in this series so be sure to check the specific cache details to help you know what you are looking for.  Please share a favorite memory in your log from the year of the event you find if you attended!

Have fun!
