Established in 1797, the Norfolk Police Department is one of the oldest in the US. In 1919, the Norfolk Police Museum opened. In 1871, the Norfolk Fire-Rescue was established replacing the volunteers in place since 1788. It was only the third paid fire department in the country. It wasn’t until 2003 that they began a museum in the training center. By 2010, both museums had outgrown their homes and opened a joint museum between Moses Myers House and Willougby-Baylor House. They have numerous artifacts highlighting those who have served their community. Volunteer staff will even assist with genealogy if great-great granddad served the City.

When did the current Norfolk Police & Fire Rescue Museum open?

a) 2010 N 36 52.025 W 076 18.484

b) 1776 N 36 52.249 W 076 18.158
